notes: This and two other viola concertos by Kraus were "hidden" for 250 years, owing to the fact that they were presented to the publishing firm of Breitkopf under the name of Pater Romanus Hofstetter, a Benedictine monk. The true identity of the composer was only recently discovered.  This is the first time these works have been recorded.

notes: This was the last piece written by the "Waltz King," shortly before his death in 1899.  He did not live to hear the f irst performance, which was given by his younger brother, Eduard, on 21  January 1900. It is quite unlike anything else the composer wrote.
